Use of Animation can Pep-Up your PowerPoint PresentationYou want your next business PowerPoint presentation to grab eyeballs! Introduce yourself and your presentation to the power of animation. Animation instantly peps up a PowerPoint presentation making them more dynamic and more memorable. But it’s of utmost importance to retain the professional tone and make sure that it doesn’t distract the audience from the message that’s being conveyed.

How much animation should be applied in PowerPoint presentation?

No doubt, animation makes a presentation dynamic, but we recommend you to use it sparingly. It’s important to maintain a tasteful balance without going overboard. The key here is to keep the animation simple! PowerPoint has loads of options for animating slides, pictures, and shapes, but over-using can ruin things and can leave the audience perplexed.

A few steps to apply animation to your PowerPoint presentation

How to apply entrance and exit animation effect?

1. First just select the object you want to animate.

2. Go to “Animation Tab”, you’ll see an Animation group, simply click an animation effect from the gallery. For more options, click the More arrow.
Green colored icons are for entrance effect, yellow colored icons for emphasis effect and icons red in color for exit effect.

3. If you wish to alter how the selected text animates, just click on the “Effects Options” and then click what you wish the animation to do.
P.S. Not all animation effects offer similar Effect Options choices.

4. In order to specify the timings of the effects, on the Animations tab, apply the commands on the Timing group.

How to apply sounds to animated text and objects?

For that you need to:

1. Click “Animation Pane” in the Advanced Animation group which you’ll find on the Animation tab. The Animation Pane appears on the side of the workspace pane, displaying the order, type and duration of animation effects applied to texts or objects on a slide.

2. Select the effect you wish to add sound to, simply click the down arrow then click “Effect Options”.
P.S. Depending on the type of animation selected, The Effect Options dialogue box displays various options.

3. On the “Effect” tab you’ll see “Enhancements” inside it in the “Soundbox, click the arrow to open the list then simply do either of the following:

> Click a sound from the list, simply click OK.
> In order to add a sound from a file, click on “Other Sound from the list, locate the sound file you wish to use, and then click Open.
On doing this, the slide plays a review of the animation with the sound added. For changing the preview sound, you have to click “Sound” and move the slider up or down. To turn the preview sound off, select the “Mute” check box.

4. Repeat the process for each bullet of text to which you wish to add a sound effect.

5. To preview the entire animation and sound applied to a text, click “Play” in the “Animation Pane.

How to apply a Motion Path to text or an object?

1. Click on the text or object you wish to add a motion path. The path you apply is followed by the center of object or text bullet.

2. Again on the “Animations” tab, in the “Animations” group, under “Motion Paths, do one from the following:

3. Click on “Arcs” “Turns” “Shapes or “Loops”. The path selected appears as a dotted line on the selected object or text object.
A green arrow indicates the path’s beginning and a red one indicates its end.

4. Click “Custom Path. On clicking where you want the motion path to start, you’ll see the pointer becomes a pen.
In order to draw a path of connected straight lines, click where you wish the motion to start. Now, start moving the pointer and click where you want the line to end.
Again, draw the next connected line by clicking where you want it to end.
Finally, double-click at the motion’s final end point.
Now, to draw an irregular path, again click where you want the motion to start.
Simply, hold down the left mouse button and move the pointer on the path you want your motion path to follow.
Double-click at the motion’s final end point.

To view your complete animation and sound for the slide, click “Preview” in the “Preview” group on the “Animation” tab.
